Part Three: Honesty, Single Agency, and Experience – The 3 Pillars of Successful Real Estate Relationships
Make no mistake that my opinion is these 3 traits are paramount in your success of picking the right REALTOR® to represent your interests in a real estate transaction. The subsequent 6 traits are important but pail to the top 3 in the upcoming posts.
First let me state that I have nothing against new agents and was once one. Having new faces in the industry is healthy and I strongly advocate training or mentorship early in one’s career.
With that said there is no replacement for experience to temper ones approach to this very complicated business of buying and selling real estate.
More now than ever you’ll want to have a REALTOR® that has experience in guiding and advising you through all the pitfalls, twists, and turns to a successful close of escrow.
There was an old story about a large power plant having trouble. The control room was enormous with thousand of instrument gauges measuring each and every process of the complicated plant covering each wall.
Something was wrong, but no one in the plant could figure out what the problem was, and hundreds of man hours were spent studying the instruments and trouble shooting to no avail.
The plant manager desperate for a solution called a man highly rated in the field of trouble shooting that had been recommended to him.
The expert was brought into the control room where he spent 10 minutes wandering the room, finally stopping at one small instrument and giving it a slight tap twice – suddenly the plant was back on-line at full power and normal operation.
Later that week the Plant Manager received a bill from the expert. When he opened the statement he was surprised to see a bill for $2,000 and immedialty rang up the expert to inquire how 10 minutes of time could be worth so much money and could he please itemize his statement.
Later that week another amended invoice arrived for the plant manager.
10 minutes time assessing the problem and troubleshooting plus travel time $25.00
20 years past professional experience in knowing which instrument to tap – $1,975.00
When you hire an experienced REALTOR® you are hiring someone that lives and breaths real estate and brings with them the expertise to guide you through to a successful transaction. While that comes at a price the plant manager had forgotten about the hundreds of hours spent of inexperienced workers trying to solve the problem without success.
